Indianapolis to acquire former women's prison after property exchange with state
The city of Indianapolis will control the future of the former Indiana Women's Prison property on the city's near eastside by November 2024.
State agrees to sign over site of former women's prison to city of Indianapolis
The state has agreed to transfer ownership of the old Indiana Women's Prison property to the city of Indianapolis. Neighbors of the site say they've lived next to "an eyesore" for the last seven years. After the prison closed, the buildings became dilapidated and people have fought to turn things around.
City acquires former women’s prison property in land swap with state
In a deal announced Wednesday, Indianapolis will receive the former Indiana Women's Prison site on the east side in exchange for a portion of Sherman Park and property that is home to the Indianapolis Animal Care Services municipal animal shelter.
