NORFOLK, Va. — Former President Donald Trump has held onto Republican control of North Carolina, The Associated Press has reported. Republicans have held a narrow lead in the state since 2012. The fast-growing Southern state gave Trump his smallest margin of victory — 1.3 percentage points — over Democrat Joe Biden four years ago.

The 2024 presidential election is over, but the path to Inauguration Day on Jan. 20 is just beginning. The votes have to be certified in the states, the Electoral College has to meet and then Congress counts the vote.
