The deadline for the EU’s deforestation regulation (EUDR) implementation has been delayed by a year, after a vote in the European Parliament this morning.

The European Parliament voted Nov. 14 to delay for one year the implementation of the European Union  Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) that was set to go into effect Dec. 30 of this year. The law would have banned the import of commodities linked to deforestation.

The European Parliament demanded further changes to a landmark law to tackle global deforestation, adding complications to a plan to delay the controversial rules before they take effect later this year.

EUDR implementation will be delayed a year, the European Parliament has confirmed following a vote overcoming the last barrier to the delay's approval.
